Humanities: End Notes and Footnotes

For further guidance on the use of endnotes and footnotes within the Humanities discipline, please review the MLA 8th Edition.

MLA style warns against extensive use of explanatory notes, which can be distracting to the reader.

MLA style allows the use of endnotes/footnotes for bibliographic notes - referring readers to other publications they can consult - and for brief content notes - i.e. providing information considered too digressive for the main text.
